Must See: 5 things Jose-Mourinho must do NOW to keep Zinedine Zidane at bay
Jose Mourinho is under a bit of
pressure at the moment, amid claims Zinedine Zidane has one eye on his position
at Manchester United.
His Red Devils have lost two of their opening
four fixtures, and the Portuguese has a number of off-field problems seemingly
getting in the way of him doing his job.
The international break provided Mourinho with the opportunity to clear his
head and forget about the Premier League for a weekend.
He spent his time travelling about watching
his first team stars in action, taking a good look at David De Gea and co. in
England's friendly with Spain at Wembley.
But now his focus returns to the pitch and
Manchester United's trip to Watford. Here's five things he must address if he wants to
keep his job.

1. Work
things out with Paul Pogba
For a long time now there have been reports of
a feud between Mourinho and Paul Pogba bubbling away behind the scenes at
Manchester United.
The duo have remained relatively tight-lipped
over the situation, despite some obvious signs - Mourinho dropping Pogba last
season, Pogba telling the press he fears being fined if he speaks out.
But its time for the Portuguese to swallow his
pride and bury the hatchet.
You can argue that player power is getting ridiculous and the manager deserves
utmost respect, but Mourinho needs Pogba a lot more than Pogba needs Mourinho
right now.

The
midfielder is in the prime of his career, he's just won the World Cup, and
could sign for any club on the planet.
Mourinho needs to start getting the best out
of him if he wants to start getting the best out of Manchester United. Pogba is
arguably the club's most influential player, and we saw in Russia his ability
to lead a team to victory.
The Frenchman has shown glimpses of his
world-class ability in a Red Devils shirt, but Mourinho needs to extract this
from him every week.
2. Settle on a back-four and stick to it
Mourinho made it very clear he wanted at least
one centre-back this summer, and was disappointed at being unable to bring one
in.
It's a terrible, terrible set-back of course -
overlooking the fact the same time last season he splashed out £30million on
Victor Lindelof - but it's life.
So far this season Mourinho has made it clear
he doesn't think any of his defenders are particularly good - shattering their
confidence - and has chopped and changed them regularly.

The
result? Shambolic performances from, on paper, talented players.
The Portuguese might not currently know who
his best centre-back pairing is, but he needs to work this out. And quick.
Settling on a back-four will ensure stability
and enable his defence to grow in confidence and build a relationship with
David De Gea between the sticks.
3. Start working with the players he has
Moving on from the point above, Mourinho needs
to get over the apparent heartache of only signing one of the five players he
wanted in this summer's transfer window.
He is, first and foremost, a coach, and must
therefore start coaching his team to play the way he wants them to play.

Manchester
United have a number of world-class stars who could walk into any team on the
planet; Alexis Sanchez, Paul Pogba and David De Gea to name but a few.
It's time Mourinho started getting more from
them. It's time he accepted he can't always sign the finished product, and he
must start nurturing younger players too.
4. Sort things out with the man in charge
Moving away from his on-pitch issues and heading
into the boardroom, Mourinho has had problems with Ed Woodward this season.
The Portuguese was unhappy at not being backed
by Manchester United's executive vice chairman to spend big money this summer,
and the tiff has only resulted in more pressure being put on the shoulders of
the Red Devils boss.

Players
are obviously aware of the issue between Mourinho and the board, and the
feeling of uncertainty isn't doing anyone favours.
The Red Devils boss needs to work to patch
things up with the big man upstairs if he wants to prove to him he is still the
right man for the job.
After all, Woodward has a lot of influence
over his future.
5. Stop picking unnecessary fights
It's something Mourinho has done throughout
his career in management, but it's something he needs to address now.
The secret to being a good manager for a long
time is adapting.
Sir Alex Ferguson was known for trying new
things and learning from his mistakes and successes.
Mourinho's
attitude right now appears to be 'it's worked for me before so it's right' -
his recent comments about his past achievements drum this notion home.

But
the problem is it's not working now, and so his past achievements - as
impressive as they are - are completely irrelevant.
Football management is brutal and others with
equally glittering CVs have been cast aside when results haven't gone to plan -
look what happened to Champions League winner Louis van Gaal, who was sacked
after winning the FA Cup.
In short, it's time Mourinho started adapting.
He needs to get wily and pick his fights, not lose his temper with the media in
press conferences. Anything he can do right now to relieve the pressure on his
shoulders, basically.
